THE NUMBER 111
THE BEGINNING
So, we did it! After a busy and stressful few months, First Light Coffee is no longer an idea or something we dreamt about whilst running on the Welsh hills, it’s an actual thing, a real thing and we couldn’t be happier!
I’m writing this a couple of days after the first orders of our COPA Coffee have been shipped out to customers. Initial tasting and customer reviews have been nothing but amazing. We’ve been blown away by the positive response to our biodynamic healthy coffee.
Ten months ago, after reading about the health benefits of drinking coffee, we got very excited (we are coffee lovers!). But then, we also discovered that by the time that we drink our cup of coffee, it has lost most of the good stuff from it due to over processing and actually doesn’t offer many health benefits at all.
In a moment of inspiration(or madness), we decided to see if it was possible to keep the good stuff in coffee throughout the journey from farm to cup. We read and researched everything from coffee farming methods and techniques, coffee processing and coffee roasting to pinpoint where changes could be made to not lose the magic. From that, we hatched a plan for creating a new coffee that is full of the good stuff and also tastes damn good!
In the months that followed, we threw every spare minute of our lives into setting up our own coffee company. It was exciting and daunting but we made friends and contacts along the way who gave lots of support and confidence so that we could bring this beautiful idea to life.
It took time to find all the right pieces of the jigsaw as we weren’t willing to settle on just anything. This lead to frustration and lots of questions and even some doubts about ‘can we actually do this?’ But, we persisted and when met with a problem or dead end, we simply took a step back and reminded ourselves of how brilliant this could be if we managed to make it a reality. With that, enthusiasm and energy got injected back into it and we kept moving forwards.
As things came together, we looked at the calendar and searched for a date to launch. We marked the date 1/11. Apparently, the number 111 has a lot of positivity attached to it and so this date seemed like a good one to go with. The night before was a very late one with hardly any sleep as we made the final amendments to the website and online shop. But, at midnight on the 1/11/23, we clicked the ‘Make Public’ button on the website and it was time to rock. First Light was out there.
This date seemed like a deadline and an end to the madness of setting up and going live. But in fact, this date was Day 1 of it all and now the adventure and work really begins.
