A short while ago, a good friend of ours arrived at the shop drenched in sweat and exhausted having just completed a run that took on three local big peaks. Over a coffee, we discussed the route he took to get from one peak to the next. We discussed how there were lots of different trails and paths he could have taken to get from one peak to the next - some easy and long, some sketchy but quicker. We agreed that it would be a cool thing to try and take on the three peaks and add in a castle and see who could complete it quickest. And so, 'The Dennison Round’ was born…
Do you have what it takes to take on The Dennison Round?
Here are the details of the challenge…
THE DENNISON ROUND - A self navigating solo or group challenge that requires grit, determination and trail shoes.
Challenge checkpoints / Locations…
The Garth trig point
Craig yr Allt summit
Caerphilly Mountain trig point
Castell Coch front door
(SEE w3w below)
How it works…
To start the challenge, a runner/runners must ring the bell outside the shop to signal they are starting ‘the denni round.’ A stopwatch will be started by a member of staff at this point signalling the start of the challenge. The runner/runners must then run to ALL FOUR locations and back to the shop and ring the bell when they finish. The stopwatch will then be stopped and their time recorded on leaderboard and in the ‘Book of Denni' etching their names in history and greatness forever!
The route is not provided beforehand, runners can choose which order they will tackle the locations and which route they will take to link each checkpoint/location. Denni runners can mix road and trail to navigate between checkpoints and can go any direction they want to, either running a loop or zig-zagging from location to location…whatever they think will get them round quickest!
On completion, proof of bagging the locations must be shown via Strava (or equivalent) and a photograph showing the four locations on a mobile device. The time will be taken from the shop stopwatch and not from STRAVA. It will recorded by a member of staff and this time is final regardless if it’s different from strava time. Every runner who completes The Dennison Round will be given a drink of their choice and a coaster.
